Dr. Claman continues to combine her clinical expertise with entrepreneurial innovation to advance women’s healthcare, mentor the next generation, and improve patient experiences globally. Q

What do you attribute your success to?

My success is rooted in constant effort, honest self-reflection and, most importantly, the willingness to use that self-reflection to keep learning. I am deeply passionate about my mission to improve women’s healthcare, and I am willing to put in the time, persistence, and hard work required to turn that belief into meaningful impact.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be the kind of leader others want to follow. This advice was given to me after I made a controversial decision (one that in hindsight was the correct decision, but several high profile folks within my organization did not agree). This mentor explained that good leaders have to make difficult decisions and not everyone will agree with every decision. But everyone needs to respect you, your values, your mission and your integrity. Be the kind of leader that others want to follow EVEN when they don't agree with your decision.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to avoid trying to do everything at once. Focus on what matters most to you and do those things exceptionally well. Define your priorities, craft your own path forward, take ownership of it, and pursue it with confidence. Success comes from clarity, focus, and commitment.

Pursue leadership opportunities. Believe that you belong at the table even if no one else at the table looks like you. Cultivate the confidence within yourself needed to lead and inspire others.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest challenges—and opportunities—in women’s healthcare is the lack of meaningful innovation that reflects real patient and provider experiences. There is tremendous opportunity for clinician-driven solutions that address unmet needs, improve comfort, and empower women through better design and evidence-based education.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value honesty, persistence, reflection, and service. I believe strongly in caring for others while also making space for personal well-being. Taking care of yourself—mentally and physically—is essential if you want to show up fully for patients, colleagues, and the work you care about.
