Her Story
About Jennifer
Jennifer Clark serves as Senior Social Media Manager for the Association for Supply Chain Management, a membership organization based on profits that empowers and educates supply chain professionals around the globe. She began this role in November of last year after working as a social media manager at Informa, a global event logistics company, where she started the organic social media presence for the largest global health tech conference. Clark's path into marketing has been non-traditional, as she is self-taught and did not attend school for the field. She attributes her drive to lessons from her mother, an immigrant who worked hard to build a life in the U.S., and her father, who joined the military out of high school and retired as a non-commissioned officer. These experiences instilled in her a strong sense of discipline and the importance of doing one's best even when unobserved. Clark seeks harmony in her work and life, believing in the value of the brands and causes she supports. She has volunteered with World Relief, a refugee resettlement agency supporting immigrants and asylum seekers, since 2019, inspired by her mother's background, and serves on the board of her church's preschool.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think going back to my mom's background, she had to work really hard to establish a life for herself here in the U.S, and my dad joined the military out of high school and ended up by the time he retired from the military was a non-commissioned officer. I learned a lot from both of them about discipline and doing your best even when no one's looking. I read this in an interview with Anne Hathaway recently where she said she's not chasing work-life balance so much as harmony these days. It's about everything moving in the same direction and believing in the work that you're doing.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say not to count yourself out for any opportunities and to be open to exploring it, gaining what you can from every experience or role that you might have. Be comfortable with not knowing exactly where it's going to lead you but trusting that you're gaining something from that experience that you can carry with you and use to tell the story of your career and your skill set. My career has been very non-traditional and I did not even go to school for marketing so I'm self-taught.
