About Jennifer
Jennifer Crowe owns and operates Crow's Nest Productions, her music production company based in Louisville, Kentucky, which she founded about two years ago. She entered the music industry upon graduating college in 2014 with a Bachelor's in Music Education and spent nearly 12 years as a full-time music teacher providing private lessons at a local music store before shifting focus after the birth of her daughter. In 2021, Crowe earned an Associate's Degree in Music Production from LA Film School and has since signed deals with two sync music agencies to place her original music in television and streaming platforms. She is affiliated with BMI for music royalties and draws on a mentor's guidance while emphasizing vision and persistence in a challenging industry. Crowe values community and kindness in her work, often producing music for other female artists, and advises aspiring professionals to network within supportive circles and adopt a producer mindset by putting on the necessary hats to complete the job.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I work with a mentor who is wonderful, and I think between that and having a vision, and never giving up on that vision. I've been told so many times, you know, music is a tough industry. So many people are always asking, when are you going to get a real job? And just not listening to that. I want my daughter to know, especially, that if you want to do something, there is nobody that can tell you you can't do it.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Putting on the hats. Shift the mindset. Put on the hat. Even if you don't believe you are the producer, you're the producer today, because who else is producing your music? You are, so put on the hat. And forget any of those doubts, basically. Turn the hat and do the job!
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say network, which sounds like an obvious answer, but I believe that music especially is a community. Nobody can do it alone. So, surround yourself with people who are positive, people who are doing what you want to do. People who want to do what you want to do, and you'll find in the community, you'll find lots of support.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Community. I really do believe that you need a community behind you, whether it's their personal friends, whether they're work friends, I just feel like nobody can do it alone. There's so much to do, and nobody should have to bear everything alone, so I think community is everything. And, of course, something just as simple as kindness, as well, like just showing kindness to the people you work with will go a long way.
