Her Story
About Jennifer
Jennifer Eyre is a distinguished educational leader with nearly three decades of experience dedicated to transforming the lives of students, families, and school communities. Beginning her career as a classroom teacher, she steadily expanded her professional footprint through roles as a teacher mentor, literacy coach, and ultimately, an elementary administrator — a trajectory that has taken her across multiple school districts in both Illinois and California, where she currently serves within the Coachella Valley Unified School District. Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Monmouth College, a Master of Arts in Teaching and Leadership from Saint Xavier University, advanced administrative certifications from Roosevelt University, and doctoral-level coursework in Superintendency from Concordia University Chicago, Jennifer's academic foundation is as expansive as the career it has supported. Her credentials span both Illinois and California, reflecting her ability to lead with excellence across diverse educational landscapes.
At the core of Jennifer's leadership philosophy is a profound commitment to literacy and the belief that a love of reading can be the single greatest gift an educator gives a child. She has championed inventive, community-centered literacy initiatives — including a memorable school-wide reading challenge that earned front-page recognition — demonstrating that learning is most powerful when it sparks genuine enthusiasm. Her specialized expertise in instructional leadership, multi-tiered systems of support, educational technology integration, and teacher coaching has earned her two prestigious honors: the ICARE Reading Educator of the Year from the Illinois Reading Council and the Technology Administrator of the Year from the Coachella CUE affiliate. These accolades speak to her rare ability to bridge the human and innovative dimensions of education with equal mastery.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jennifer is a passionate advocate for community engagement and collaborative leadership. She has served on the Board of Directors for Coachella CUE, the Illinois Principals Association's Western Region Board, and the Monmouth College Alumni Board, while also contributing to California ASCD as a committee member. Her support of the Read With Me program — which pairs retired volunteers with students to strengthen reading and academic skills — reflects her enduring belief that education thrives when entire communities invest in it together. Guided by the values of authentic relationship-building, personal integrity, and deep respect for others, Jennifer Eyre continues to shape a legacy defined not merely by the roles she has held, but by the lasting difference she has made in every school community fortunate enough to call her their own.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from an unwavering dedication to literacy and a sincere commitment to building strong, meaningful relationships with the students, families, and staff I serve. Following through on my commitments has been equally essential — trust is earned through consistency, and I have always made it a priority to be someone others can rely on.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The most valuable advice I have ever received was simply this: other people are not you. I learned to make a conscious effort to appreciate the perspectives of those around me, recognizing that not everyone will react or respond the way I might. People are generally coming from a good place, and extending that respect and understanding has profoundly shaped how I lead and collaborate.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Education offers so many different paths and possibilities — do not limit yourself to one role or one vision of what your career should look like. Start somewhere that resonates with you, remain open to exploring different opportunities, and be willing to move to a new school or district if it means growing professionally. Each experience will teach you something valuable, and the most rewarding chapters of your career may come from the roles you never initially expected to pursue.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the most significant challenges we face today is navigating the constant evolution of educational programs and approaches, while also responding to shifting family dynamics. Many families lead incredibly busy lives, which can sometimes limit their capacity to be actively involved in their children's reading and homework routines. As a leader, I work to find that balance — supporting my teachers and staff while simultaneously ensuring that students are genuinely excited to come to school and that families feel welcomed and valued as partners in the educational journey.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
At the heart of everything I do is relationship-building. Taking the time to truly know the people I serve — their needs, their stories, their strengths — is foundational to everything else. Equally important to me are follow-through and integrity: when I make a commitment, I honor it. And above all, I believe in respecting and validating others, because every person deserves to feel seen and heard.
