Her Story

About Jennifer

Dr. Jennifer Ferrer is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) specializing in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Advanced Human Behavior Studies. With professional experience in the field of ABA since 2011, she is dedicated to helping children and adults with disabilities develop essential skills, improve communication, and achieve greater independence in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. She currently works as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst at Positive Behavior Supports Corp. and serves as CEO and Behavior Analyst at Northern Virginia Behavioral Consulting. Her responsibilities include conducting Functional Behavior Assessments, developing Behavior Intervention Plans, providing therapeutic consultation, and training families, caregivers, and support professionals. She also advocates for inclusion and access to appropriate services in the least restrictive environments.

Jennifer began her professional career as a high school educator, teaching physics, algebra, and nuclear physics. Following a career transition during the 2008 recession, she discovered her passion for working with children with disabilities and pursued advanced education in psychology and behavioral science. She earned a Master of Science in Psychology from Capella University in 2016 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Advanced Human Behavior Studies in 2020, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to mentorship and professional development, organizing free international study groups during the COVID-19 pandemic to help aspiring Board Certified Behavior Analysts prepare for their certification examinations. She also has entrepreneurial interests in real estate and hopes to establish a residential care facility for older adults.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jennifer is deeply committed to faith, family, and humanitarian service. A Christian and worship leader at her church, she enjoys singing and playing the piano and guitar. Her compassion extends beyond her professional responsibilities, as demonstrated by her efforts to assist a homeless individual, support a Ukrainian family seeking resources for their child, and advocate for individuals with disabilities. One of her greatest aspirations is to establish a nonprofit center in the Philippines that provides children with disabilities access to essential behavioral and therapeutic services. Guided by her belief in perseverance, compassion, and service, Jennifer measures success not simply through professional achievements but through the positive and lasting difference she makes in the lives of others.

Ten minutes with Jennifer

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my family and my Christian faith. As a Filipino, family is central to my values, and I make it a priority to support my loved ones, especially my family in the Philippines. I am also motivated by helping those in need, including the homeless and people facing hardships. I believe humanity and integrity are more important than material possessions, and making a meaningful difference in others' lives continues to inspire me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women is to persevere and never give up, even when facing barriers or discouragement from family or others. Never settle for less when you know what you are capable of achieving. Help others along the way, and pursue a career that genuinely inspires you. When you are passionate about what you do, there is no limit to what you can accomplish.
