Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jennifer

01What do you attribute your success to?

My motivation is my family and myself. Knowing that I could potentially make more money than what I'm making right now motivates me, but mainly to prove to myself that I can do it. I always want to learn new things and continue to grow.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Whatever I put my mind to. Don't be afraid to reach for the stars. Don't be afraid to expand your horizons. There's no limitation.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To enter into manufacturing, it's a man's world. You can't be soft, you have to be tough. Know your worth. You can't be offended. You have to keep going and continue to fight your way through. Don't let anybody stop you.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenges of moving up into a management position. I've applied several times and have not got it because a man got it over me. I don't let it stop me. I'm not afraid to venture away from Whirlpool and go somewhere else that I can improve and grow in my career.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My values are that people should advance in their career based on their work ethic and what they know, not just by their friends or connections. At work I sometimes struggle when leadership's values and morals are not the same as mine.
