Jennifer Jessel is a dedicated Quality Management professional with extensive experience across multiple manufacturing sectors, including plastics, electronics, flat sheet metal, and aerospace. Currently serving as a Senior Quality Engineer at Joby Aviation, she was part of the original team that established the company’s Vandalia, Ohio facility, where she developed a state-of-the-art quality lab, trained staff in quality standards, and implemented processes to ensure product excellence. Her hands-on approach and cross-functional collaboration have enabled her to drive continuous improvement while maintaining strict compliance with industry standards. Jennifer’s career began on the shop floor as an assembly and machine operator, where she gained practical insight into production processes. A transition into quality during a company restructuring revealed her aptitude for problem solving, process optimization, and leadership development. Over six years in quality, including four years in management roles, she has honed expertise in AS9100 compliance, NCR management, auditing, and lean manufacturing methodologies, consistently helping organizations reduce scrap, enhance efficiency, and deliver superior products safely. Educationally, Jennifer holds a Bachelor’s degree in education and Management from Ashford University complemented by an Associate degree in Medical Assisting and additional studies in paraprofessional education. She combines technical proficiency with a philosophy of empowering teams through training, practical procedures, and listening to staff feedback, ensuring quality systems are both effective and user-friendly. What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to determination and hard work. I began my career out of necessity, taking on an entry-level role, and through dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to learning, I have advanced to the position I hold today.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the manufacturing industry is to not be afraid of leadership opportunities, no matter where you start from. Prove doubters wrong, invest in building strong relationships, and cultivate the confidence needed to lead and inspire others.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say the biggest challenges in my field come from the ever-changing dynamics of manufacturing. In the age of automated technology and AI, you have to be willing to grow with these new technologies. You have to maintain a passion for learning and growth, otherwise you’ll be left behind.

The most important values in my work and personal life is honesty and integrity. People need to know that you mean what you say and are going to follow through with your commitments.
