About Jennifer
Jennifer Keenan serves as a military human performance specialist in the fields of military aviation, aerospace physiology, and human performance. She enlisted in the Marine Corps right after 9-11 and later transferred to the Army, where she became one of the first women in the Special Forces during her 11 years of service, which ended at the close of 2010. Following her military career, Keenan completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Louisville in geography and atmospheric science and a master's thesis in psychophysiology at the College of Certified Psychophysiologists in California, which positions her to become board certified in aerospace physiology. In the upcoming spring she will begin doctoral studies at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a certificate program at Texas A&M in austere and aerospace medicine. Keenan maintains active memberships in the Aerospace Medical Association, the Special Ops Medical Association, and the Aerospace Physiology Society, holds a board position with the Global Special Forces Foundation, and is establishing the Alpha Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to research and treatment programs for special operators and their families. She attributes her success to seeing no limits beyond those she sets for herself and to serving as her own ally, while valuing integrity above all in both her professional and personal life.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I really see no limits. The only limits that I'll have are the ones that I set on myself. Being my own ally has been a big player for me. Learning to realize that if I have fear that I can't do something, that's my head. Nobody's putting that in my head.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Not putting all your eggs in one nest. When you are so hyper-focused on one thing, you miss out on a lot of things potentially. Just being open to learning and to being receptive to what others have to offer.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Being open to a lot of different career paths. Be patient and open-minded. The field of aerospace medicine is huge and there are so many opportunities. Keep your mind open and not just put all your eggs in one nest.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is everything to me.
