Her Story
About Jennifer
Jennifer Parker, MEd, is a transformational speaker, healthcare advocate, and former healthcare executive who empowers audiences to become confident advocates for themselves and their loved ones. Drawing on more than 35 years of experience in healthcare leadership, business ownership, and education, she delivers impactful presentations on self-advocacy, breast cancer awareness, breast density awareness, organ and tissue donation, and resilience. Through compelling storytelling and practical strategies, Jennifer equips individuals with the knowledge and confidence to navigate complex healthcare systems, ask informed questions, and make empowered decisions.
After a distinguished career in healthcare management, including leadership roles overseeing laboratory operations, Jennifer chose to retire early and dedicate herself fully to advocacy and public speaking. Her professional journey also included owning the award-winning Southern Sparkle Florals, whose work was featured in Martha Stewart Weddings and other national publications. Today, she serves as an Ambassador for Legacy of Hope in Alabama, helping raise awareness about the life-saving impact of organ and tissue donation, and as an advisory board member for For the Love of Cups, supporting breast health education and awareness initiatives.
Jennifer's mission is deeply personal. After surviving breast cancer, she developed chemotherapy-induced congestive heart failure that ultimately led to a heart transplant. Her remarkable journey transformed adversity into purpose and inspired her lifelong commitment to patient advocacy, resilience, and compassionate leadership. She credits the strong women in her family—particularly her mother and aunts who dedicated their lives to healthcare—as the foundation of her perseverance and passion for serving others. Jennifer encourages the next generation of women to pursue education, seek meaningful mentors, and never underestimate the power of using their voice to create positive change in healthcare and beyond.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think to my mom, and just and probably all the women in my family on my mom's side. My mother was the only one of her sisters who didn't work. She was a stay-at-home mom. ... all of my other aunts... one of my aunts, my youngest, aunt, she was a lab tech. ... My other aunts worked in the hospitals. They were nurses or nurses' aides... One of my aunts, she was a single mom, she moved to California, she took classes to be a nurse. She worked as a nurse in the same hospital in UCLA for, like, 30-something years. And so that just really inspired me to see to know that I could be successful, you know, on my own. My mother always said, you know, get a job... Stay in school, get as much schooling as you can, so you don't have to depend on the man.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I think my my main thing is just to get educated. That is that is every anything that I do, it's like. I want to be educated. ... I just think education, and also, like you say, getting a mentor, someone who is willing to show you what they did.
