Her Story

About Jennifer

I have a strong legal background that prepared me for my career in contract management and compliance. Prior to starting in this field, I worked for a criminal defense attorney for like 12 years, and I also did commercial real estate. I got a little bit of experience over at the housing with the county as well, in finance. I really enjoyed being a contracts manager because I do a lot of research and make sure that everything was in compliance with the law, and that all federal requirements and deadlines are met and included. I've been in my current role as a contracts compliance officer at CareerSource South Florida for about 15 years, and prior to that I was here for 2 years as a contracts manager. I audit providers to ensure that they're spending federal dollars accordingly, review budgets, work in conjunction with finance, and handle special projects. When I first started here, I was specially recruited and in charge of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. I review contracts for compliance and to ensure that all of the federal requirements are in order and included within the contract, then send those to the county attorney for review and approval.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I like to pay attention to detail. In this field, I think that deadlines are very important. We have deadlines for everything, and so achieving those, meeting those deadlines in order to achieve the goal, it's very important. So, paying attention to detail, I think, most important, and being mindful about the deadlines.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would definitely encourage her and tell her the pros and cons. I think that there's obviously more pros than cons, but I will definitely take her under my wing and give her advice, detail, and guide her along the way.
