Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the guidance, support, and mentorship I have received throughout my career. Mentors such as Dr. Carole Pearce, Dr. Tracy Harris, and Dr. Pamela Richardson Wilks have played an invaluable role in shaping my professional journey and helping me grow as a leader. I am also grateful for my early work-study experience supporting the Director of Admissions at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, which became a foundational learning opportunity where I gained critical knowledge and developed a strong understanding of enrollment management. These experiences, along with the wisdom and encouragement of those who invested in me, have been instrumental in helping me achieve success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to invest in my education, continue investing in myself, and remain committed to lifelong growth. I have learned that success comes from continuously developing my skills, expanding my knowledge, and seeking opportunities that align with my long-term goals. Rather than becoming comfortable in one position, I believe in embracing growth, pursuing new challenges, and building a career path that reflects my passion, purpose, and commitment to excellence.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering higher education is to seek out a strong mentor who can provide guidance, encouragement, and valuable insight throughout their career journey. Find someone who is willing to invest in your growth, share their knowledge, and teach you the skills and perspectives needed to succeed. A great mentor can help you navigate challenges, identify opportunities, and build the confidence needed to achieve your professional goals.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are continuous growth, collaboration, and investing in myself and others. I believe there is no “I” in success it is always “we.” Strong leadership is built on the ability to develop, support, and empower others, because a good leader creates a strong team that can achieve shared goals. By prioritizing personal growth, teamwork, and a commitment to helping others succeed, I strive to make a meaningful impact in everything I do.
