About Jennifer

Jennifer PutnamPetrone serves as Safety Manager at a large-scale construction company, overseeing the safety of approximately 500 workers in Washington State and operations across multiple states including Oregon, Arizona, and Texas. With a 27-year career in construction that began in 1999, she joined the Carpenter's Apprenticeship program and progressed from field roles to foreman, administrative positions, Safety Coordinator, and ultimately her current role managing safety across commercial, healthcare, higher education, residential, and advanced technology sectors throughout the Pacific Northwest. She is a board-certified safety professional who earned three of the highest certifications in her field and was voted Safety Professional of the Year for Washington State by the Association of General Contractors of Washington State. Her educational background includes a vocational certificate in forestry and forest management from high school, an associate degree in science from community college, a Bachelor's of Science in Animal Bioscience with a minor in music from Penn State University, an advanced certificate in Law and Paralegal Studies from Edmonds Community College, and a journeyman carpenter apprenticeship through Renton Technical College. Outside her professional duties, she participates in initiatives like the Build Her panel discussion to encourage young girls in grades 7 through 12 to explore careers in the trades.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid. Follow your heart, follow your passion. Decide which trade is right for you because there are many different trades. Dip your toe in the water and find an avenue that lets you explore, like Build Her. You have to have fun and enjoy what you're doing so that when you get up in the morning, you look forward to it.
