Her Story
About Jennifer
I've been in the oil and gas industry for about 18 years, starting when I was just 14 or 15 years old helping my father with his bookkeeping, tickets, and invoicing - he was a hotshot driver in the industry. After serving in the Air Force as a military police officer, I returned to the Permian Basin and came back to what I knew, which was invoicing and billing. I found myself in sales and have been in sales for the past 8 years. I've been the regional sales manager part-time for about a year, then went full-time about 6 months ago. In my position, I'm responsible for securing new customers, delivering and picking up parts, making sure we stay competitive with pricing, running the branch here in Odessa, making sure it's clean and organized, keeping our inventory up to par, forecasting, hiring, and training. I cater to our current clientele in West Texas and New Mexico. What I'm most proud of is the relationships I've been able to build with my clients - I've gone through a couple of companies in the past 10 years, and I've been able to keep the same customers as I've moved through different companies. I pride myself on the service that I give my customers, and I'm obviously doing a good job that they follow me no matter what company I go with. I'm like the Energizer bunny - I'm always trying to find what else I can do for the company and how we can grow. I still continue to do my father's invoicing as well.

Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say, most importantly, God. I always pray before anything, and if it's for me, God make it happen. If it's not, you know, block it. And then my mother, my aunt, my grandmother - I've been surrounded with amazing, influential women that have paved the road for me to be successful, and I attribute all my success to them, and allowing me to do the things that I love, and pushing me when times are hard. When I wanted to give up - I mean, I was working full-time, I have two kids that do travel sports, and I was going to school, and it was so easy to say, like, I don't want to do this anymore, I don't need a degree - and they were all pushing me. So I think it's my support system I have.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't fly with the buzzards, soar with the eagles. Every time I feel like I'm about to give up or something, I'm like, well, I'm not a buzzard. I'm an eagle.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be intimidated. Know your product, and just go out there and confidently sell. I mean, do what you do. Don't let others keep you down. Just go out there and do what you love doing.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge here in the Permian Basin is that it's growing at a tremendously fast pace. It is just growing more than people can understand, and with that, it's a lot of competitors coming into West Texas, so you're finding that there's a company right across the street selling the same product. So you have to figure out, what do I need to do that we keep this customer, as opposed to them switching over to the next vendor that just popped up. That's just the biggest hurdle we have here - it's just the competition that's coming up. Every week there's a new vendor that's moving here and trying to put their mark here in West Texas as well.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My relationship with God is first. The mother that I am to my kids, and the wife that I am to my husband. And then thirdly would be work ethic. I'm just a hungry individual, and that's - I don't know that you could teach that, buy that, find that, attain that, it's just people are born with it. I'm hungry. I stay going. I'm like the Energizer bunny. I'm always trying to find what else I can do for the company, how we can grow.
