Her Story
About Jennifer
My journey has taken me through multiple fields. I initially wanted to be an attorney, but I changed my mind and became really interested in international relations, diplomacy, and politics, which is why I pursued my master's degrees. I've been in the legal profession for about 15 years, and I've been an independent policy and diplomacy analyst for about 4 years. I've been working with NASDAQ and the Securities Exchange for over a year, starting as a contractor through ExcelGens before becoming a full-time employee in January 2025. At NASDAQ, I work in the hearings department where I've pretty much rewritten the playbook - the processes used were so old and had never been changed. Since I came to NASDAQ, I rewrote everything and it's just so much more efficient now. Our clients are much happier, and things are continuing to improve. I'm very proud that this work is going to be used for generations to come. Beyond my work at NASDAQ, I'm a research fellow for the DePuy Institute, a small military think tank, where I've given presentations on Syria, chemical warfare, and will be presenting on dictators in October 2025. I was invited to a conference hosted by the Norwegian Military Academy in Oslo in 2023. I helped edit a book about the theory of warfare for a British author colleague from the DePuy Institute, completing about 12-13 chapters in just 5-7 business days. My name will be mentioned in that book when it comes out in June 2025. I also worked with Combat Weapons Development, LLC, assisting with close combat-related research for a multi-author book. I'm always striving to learn new things, travel, and broaden my education with diplomacy and how things work so that I can inform others, do better research, and make myself better. I try to find resources across the globe when researching - Ukrainian sources, Iranian websites - to get multiple perspectives rather than relying solely on Western media.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I do worry about AI a little bit with me working for a securities exchange, because we're starting to use AI more and more. Yes, it has its good points, but nothing's just black and white. AI has made my job a little bit easier - I use Microsoft Copilot and there are some other AI applications still in the works. It's helped some, but it really hasn't impacted my job much. We're still very much using bodies to do the work, live bodies to do the work. One concern I have is that we have offices throughout the world, including one in India. With my experience in international relations and diplomacy, I've thought to myself, why would we have an office in India? As far as I know, the U.S. and India are not allies - India sides with Russia and Iran and North Korea, last I checked. With all the AI going on and all this sensitive information we have, I would think it could be hacked or used by the wrong person. So why would we have an American company with headquarters in a country where we don't really have diplomatic ties? In terms of information and media, there's the challenge of knowing what's true and what's not anymore, especially since AI. There's just so much stuff floating around and you just don't know what to believe. I try to find resources across the globe, so if I'm researching something with Russia and Ukraine, I'll try to find a Ukrainian source. Russian sources are harder to find because they're very secretive. I put two and two together and don't believe everything you hear.
