Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to perseverance and determination, especially during a time when I became a young mother and spent years as a single parent while working full-time and pursuing my bachelor’s degree full-time. I never allowed my circumstances to become an excuse; instead, I remained focused, committed, and resilient, consistently pushing forward with the belief that I could build a better future for myself and my child.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to never limit myself, to recognize that if something no longer fits my day-to-day life there is always another opportunity that may align better with my goals, and to remain open to change while trusting that new paths can lead to better outcomes.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the veterinary industry is to prioritize self-care, recognize that burnout is real—especially in veterinary medicine—and to seek support when needed while making intentional time for themselves. I believe it is essential to acknowledge the emotional and mental demands of the field and to understand that maintaining personal well-being is necessary in order to sustain a long and successful career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges and opportunities in my field include the wide range of career paths available within the veterinary industry, such as hospitals, corporate roles, pharmaceuticals, supply chain, and pet insurance, alongside challenges like maintaining work-life balance, managing burnout, and navigating the pressure many women face when balancing career and family responsibilities. At the same time, I believe women are fully capable of excelling professionally while also raising families, and the field continues to offer meaningful opportunities for growth and advancement.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in my work and personal life are fairness, equality, and inclusion, along with a commitment to considering the best outcome for everyone involved. I strive to be fair in my relationships with teammates, policyholders, family, and friends, while putting others first and remaining true to my own principles and integrity.
