About Jennifer
Jennifer Wood is an accomplished education leader with more than two decades of experience dedicated to advancing student success, supporting educators, and strengthening school systems. She began her career in education in 2002 after earning a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University and obtaining an alternative teaching certification. Jennifer spent six years teaching high school mathematics, where she developed a strong foundation in instructional practices and student-centered learning. She later earned a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Psychology from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, expanding her expertise in educational assessment, learning development, and student support. Throughout her career, Jennifer has held a variety of leadership roles that have shaped her expertise in educational administration. After serving as an educational diagnostician for six years, she earned her principal and superintendent certifications and advanced into leadership positions, including Secondary Special Education Coordinator and High School Principal, where she guided academic programs, supported teachers, and implemented initiatives focused on improving outcomes for diverse student populations. She has also provided consulting services to school districts in Colorado and Arizona, helping educational organizations enhance leadership practices and operational effectiveness. Jennifer currently serves as the Director of Federal and State Programs at College Station ISD, where she oversees programs, compliance initiatives, and strategic efforts that support students and schools. Her primary area of specialization is educational administration, with expertise in instructional leadership, special education, program management, and school improvement initiatives. She is actively engaged in professional organizations, including ACET and Texas regional service centers, and remains committed to fostering educational excellence through collaboration, innovation, and strong leadership.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong work ethic, ambition, and unwavering support instilled in me by my parents. They encouraged me to continuously grow, which inspired me to pursue additional certifications, embrace new opportunities, and take on increasingly challenging roles throughout my career. Equally important has been my family, whose encouragement and belief in me have kept me motivated. Knowing that my child was looking up to me strengthened my determination to persevere, remain resilient, and never give up, even during the most demanding times.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to recognize that achieving balance can be challenging, as women often juggle many personal and professional responsibilities. Give yourself grace throughout your journey, especially during difficult seasons, and understand that growth takes time. Be patient with yourself, celebrate your progress, and remember that extending yourself compassion is just as important as striving for success.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in education is recruiting and retaining high-quality teachers. Teaching is an incredibly demanding profession, yet compensation often does not reflect the level of dedication and responsibility it requires. As experienced educators advance into leadership roles, schools must continually recruit and develop new talent to fill those positions. Funding is another significant challenge, particularly in Texas, where changes such as school voucher programs have contributed to enrollment declines in public schools, requiring districts to find innovative ways to attract and retain students. At the same time, one of the greatest opportunities and rewards in education is the ability to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children. Students often come to school carrying academic, social, and emotional challenges, and educators have the privilege of helping them grow, learn, and succeed. This is a profession driven by purpose rather than financial reward, and it requires a genuine passion for serving and positively influencing the lives of young people.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my professional and personal life are loyalty, consistency, and faith. I believe in building trust through steadfast commitment, following through on my responsibilities, and treating others with integrity and respect. Above all, my faith provides the foundation for my decisions, strengthens my character, and inspires me to lead with compassion, purpose, and perseverance in every aspect of my life.
