Her Story
About Jenny
Jenny Bowen is a marketing and communications professional in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, with a focus on environmental remediation and geotechnical construction. Since March 2024, she has served as Marketing Manager at ENTACT, LLC, leading strategic marketing initiatives, content development, and communications efforts across the organization. Her work includes developing project narratives and technical content, supporting proposals and business development initiatives, developing materials for client and industry outreach, and translating complex technical work into clear, substantive stories. She also supports corporate communications, community relations, and networking initiatives that strengthen ENTACT’s presence across its geographically dispersed operations.
Bowen began her AEC career in 2018, following earlier work in nonprofit communications and video and script production. Her previous marketing roles include positions with Marmon Rail and Leasing Group, Skanska, and Marmon Mok Architecture. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing with a minor in History from Baylor University in 2010. Two of her professors, in particular, influenced how she approaches storytelling and helped shape her decision to turn writing into a career.
Today, Bowen brings her background in professional writing to technical communications, helping subject matter experts and project teams communicate complex work clearly and authentically. She believes strong technical narratives should be grounded in substance and informed by the people and work behind them, rather than relying on formulaic messaging.
Outside of work, Bowen enjoys paddleboarding, crocheting, and spending time with her dog, Rufus. She also values community involvement and has participated in service efforts such as a beach cleanup with the Alliance for the Great Lakes. Her appreciation for service extends to ENTACT’s community initiatives supporting housing, health, food security, education, and veterans.
Bowen credits her grandfather, who owned and operated a construction company, with instilling in her the belief that persistence, education, and self-reliance can carry a person through challenges. That philosophy continues to shape her career, her approach to mentoring, and her interest in encouraging the next generation of professionals entering the AEC industry.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jenny
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the values my grandfather instilled in me. He ran a construction company and made sure all of his grandchildren learned how to do the things he could do. He always told us that as long as we put in the time, educated ourselves, and stayed willing to learn, we could accomplish anything. That upbringing taught me to think independently, work through challenges on my own, learn from my mistakes, and keep moving forward.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is to take a moment before reacting. I've found that pausing to breathe and think things through resolves far more workplace situations than acting in haste ever could.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them not to be afraid or timid. Believe in your abilities and your skills, apply for the roles you want, and don't hesitate to seek out mentors. Be willing to step outside your comfort zone — this industry is evolving, and there is real opportunity for women who are ready to take that first step.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge I see is that there simply aren't enough people to meet the demand for the work ahead of us. We have generations' worth of projects and not enough people lined up to do them. At the same time, that same demand — paired with emerging technologies like subaqueous in-situ stabilization — represents a real opportunity to develop safer, less disruptive approaches to remediation work.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, integrity, and safety matter most to me, both professionally and personally. I also place a lot of importance on being someone others can count on and on building up the people around me.
