Her Story

About Jenny

Jennifer White is a resilience speaker, retired Registered Nurse, author, and brain surgery survivor based in Wheatley, Ontario, Canada. Following a distinguished 33-year nursing career spanning hospitals, public health, long-term care administration, and ICU trauma settings, she transitioned into a new chapter focused on storytelling, advocacy, and inspiring others through her lived experiences. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing from Ryerson University and a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Athabasca University.

After facing a life-changing brain tumor diagnosis and major brain surgery that temporarily affected her ability to walk and speak, Jennifer discovered the power of resilience, creativity, and reinvention. During her recovery, she used writing as a form of therapy, eventually becoming a self-published author of medical thrillers and children’s stories inspired by her journey. Her experiences as both a healthcare professional and patient have given her a unique perspective on compassion, recovery, healthcare challenges, and the importance of seeing the person behind the diagnosis.

Today, Jennifer shares her message of hope and perseverance as a keynote speaker through The Speaking Adventure and as the host of the television program Inside the Story Confidential. She is passionate about helping individuals and organizations embrace resilience, navigate change, and find purpose after adversity. A dedicated Rotarian, Jennifer has contributed to humanitarian efforts including vision clinics in Kenya and food bank initiatives, and she was honored with the Beth Hedgepeth Literacy Award from Rotary District 6380. She attributes her success to determination and a commitment to helping others, while encouraging women to pursue paths that bring them fulfillment and joy.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jenny

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think just a determination, a desire to help others. Which is why I became a nurse. I think that's so ingrained in me that serving others is my role here on the planet.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Probably the best career advice I've ever received was when I was in administration, and I understood the value of my staff. And to how to treat them well. Because they are everything. If you don't treat your staff well, and treat them respectfully, and hear them, and listen. You really do yourself a disservice.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say find something that brings you joy, and don't let anybody talk you out of it.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is the publishing industry itself. It's a very closed system. I have to be able to navigate through this closed network of people. I chose to self-publish.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think honesty, transparency, Doing the right thing, even when it's, you know, it's hard to do. Being honest and truthful.
