About Jerusha

Jerusha Myers has been active in ministry for about the last 20 years, focusing her work on laws regarding domestic violence and sexual abuse as well as biblical teachings on divorce. She earned her BA in criminal justice with an emphasis on law enforcement from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2006. Earlier in her career, Myers worked in the bookstore industry and served as an administrative assistant for an organization focused on time management. She has also spoken at the University of Central Oklahoma on deviant religious movements and has spent considerable time in Uganda addressing issues of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Myers attributes her success to the support of great people in her life who believed in her work. She values creating safe environments for home and family and encourages others to pursue what they are passionate about.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I've had great people in my life, people that believed in what I do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Do what you love, and do what you believe in, and what your passion is. It's okay to change careers. Don't feel like you have to follow family tradition or do everything your parents say.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't make it all about academics. Always be willing to learn things. Connect with organizations and agencies. Make professional contacts. Be flexible. Love what you do and believe in what you do.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Financial challenges and economic challenges with the economy right now in the United States. For instance, average apartment rent is two grand a month.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Home and family should be a safe place and not a terrifying place. Do what you're passionate about and what you love.
