Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jesika
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the opportunities I've been given to learn, grow, and take on new challenges throughout my career. I began at EOCF as a Payroll Specialist, and through the mentorship of my supervisor, the support of organizational leadership, and a culture that invests in employee development, I was able to grow alongside the organization. Their encouragement helped me build both my technical expertise and leadership skills, and I'm grateful for the trust they placed in me throughout my journey.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to never consider any task beneath you. Be willing to step in wherever you're needed, help others succeed, and do what it takes to get the job done. Never stop learning, embrace opportunities to grow, and invest in building strong relationships. Collaboration, trust, and a willingness to support those around you are the foundation of effective leadership and lasting success.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be willing to go above and beyond what's expected of you, and never consider any task beneath you. The greatest opportunities for growth often come from stepping in where you're needed, supporting your team, and helping others succeed. Invest in continuous learning, seek out new challenges, and build strong relationships throughout your career. Success is rarely achieved alone—collaboration, trust, and genuine connections with others will open doors, strengthen your leadership, and help you grow alongside those around you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in nonprofit finance is navigating increasing financial uncertainty while continuing to meet the needs of the communities we serve. Organizations are balancing rising costs with limited funding, while adapting to changes in federal and state funding, grant requirements, and evolving programs such as Head Start and ECEAP. These challenges also create opportunities to strengthen financial stewardship, improve operational efficiency, and develop innovative strategies that maximize limited resources. Strong financial leadership is more important than ever to help organizations remain sustainable while continuing to fulfill their mission.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is the foundation of everything I do, both professionally and personally. I believe in being honest, accountable, and doing what's right—even when it's difficult. Leading with integrity builds trust, strengthens relationships, and creates a culture of respect, accountability, and collaboration that extends beyond the workplace into every aspect of life.
