About Jessica
I've been in fitness for the last 16 years, and my main area of expertise is weight loss and general fitness. As a coach, my typical day varies depending on how many clients I currently have under me. When I have a client, if it's going to be one-on-one coaching, I'm there during their coaching session, walking them through the exercises, making sure they have proper form and all that, as well as checking in with their emotional well-being and seeing how the plan is going with them. If it's not a really busy day, then for the most part it's just whatever normal life is, and then whenever I have the client scheduled on, maybe figuring out their next workout or things to add to their fitness plan or something like that. I recently did a collaboration and got hooked up with Sassy Fitness, where I'm officially on their team as one of their coaches. Before I got into fitness as a career, I worked in the tech industry for a few years, where I was an assistant to the marketing director as well as the assistant marketing director. I would do email and marketing campaigns, I was in charge of posting the social media content, and bringing in new leads and prospects for a tech company that provided an inventory management system for trailer dealers.

Ten minutes with Jessica
01What do you attribute your success to?
Well, God, first and foremost. I think also probably my family, because like I said, I grew up with fitness being a big thing, so definitely part of that. And then just different coaches and mentors along the way that I'd kind of met, and just kind of had a season, basically, with them, and learned really good stuff from various people here and there.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is probably do what you love and the money will follow. Basically, find a career that you actually enjoy doing, not something that you're gonna hate or dread, but something that you actually enjoy and you're gonna stick with.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say just be genuine, just be who they are and what they offer. Don't try to copy other people, because the clientele that they're looking for, someone needs exactly what they have to offer, their personality, whatever their passion is. There's someone out there who's going to fit that. So just be true to themselves, and just be genuine, and if it's something they really want to do, basically just do everything they can, and don't take no for an answer, and if they keep plugging away at it, they'll end up having success.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges right now, honestly, are getting clients, especially being an online coach. The online marketing, getting online clients, because these aren't just people you network with and meet and everything. That's definitely one of the biggest challenges. Also, me currently being pregnant right now, fitness and maintaining weight, it kind of takes... it is harder to navigate that when pregnant, because there are exercise limitations and restrictions, and you can't just use the same methods, the same dieting methods, because now you're eating for two, so you have to make sure you're eating enough. So that has definitely been a huge challenge currently, is trying to maintain what I used to have, but while I'm now pregnant.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values, first and foremost, would be God, following God, following the Bible, doing what's right, making sure I'm in line with His will and living right. Other values would be treating people with respect and integrity and kindness, basically trying to make sure that you don't ever make anybody feel dissed, or looked down on. Basically just treat people the way that you want to be treated, and you have honesty, and you have integrity, and you just do the best that you can in whatever field, or whatever topic you're in.
