About Jessica

Jessica Bailey serves as a creative director and freelance business owner in Lake Dallas, Texas. She began her career after school as a creative at a startup agency, working with Jill Adams McDonough on account management and creative tasks before moving to Texas for a role focused on copywriting and design. Bailey progressed into roles allowing her to influence creative choices while building teams and systems. At the end of 2019 she moved overseas, which facilitated a shift to freelancing and contract work during the pandemic as former clients reached out for support. She now offers comprehensive services such as website development and design in Shopify, email marketing, paid ads, branding, and copywriting, often acting as an integral team member for long-term retainer clients while maintaining flexibility. Notable achievements include helping brands launch new identities, such as creating branding and a website for a fly fisherman guide in Montana that led to increased business. Bailey previously served as a board member for the Doc Blumenlein Project, an arts organization tied to opera, where she contributed photography and design expertise. She values work-life boundaries, noting that personal worth comes from who one is rather than career output, and identifies the challenge of integrating AI tools efficiently without diminishing creative fulfillment.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jessica

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Your work family is not your actual family. It's important that you have boundaries of work-life balance, and that your personal worth did not come from what you did at work.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Find boundaries for work-life balance. Your personal worth comes from who you are, not what you do in your career. Don't get too attached to the work while still providing the best to your ability. It's what's best for the client, not necessarily what you like best.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

How to utilize AI as a resource without it overtaking every piece of the process. Use it to make yourself more efficient and as a tool while not leaning too heavily on it, in a way that still feeds you creatively.
