Her Story

About Jessica

Jessica Beemer serves as the number two on her government affairs team in the telecommunications sector, reporting to a vice president and overseeing two managers while managing a large geographic area across Texas. With a career spanning 15 to 20 years in government before transitioning to telecommunications two and a half years ago, she thrives in the unpredictable nature of her role, which includes responding to elected officials about infrastructure issues, coordinating with internal teams to resolve outages, and supporting community investments through grants to nonprofits. Beemer earned her bachelor's degree in political science and international studies in 2008 and her master's degree in public administration with a certificate in nonprofit leadership and management from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2013, degrees that directly support her work communicating with officials and stewarding corporate giving. She is an alumna of Leadership Houston and serves on the President's Advisory Council for the Greater East Montgomery Chamber, and she previously held board positions with Family Promise while currently participating in the Northeast Memorial Hermann Hospital Foundation's breast cancer awareness committee. Beemer advises professionals to keep learning, avoid complacency, and embrace discomfort for growth, noting that government affairs teams are often small yet handle expansive regions, making effective time management essential.

Ten minutes with Jessica

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice is to keep learning, don't get comfortable, do things that make you uncomfortable, and find growth. The minute that you stop learning, you become stagnant in your career.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Government affairs teams are small but handle large areas like the Texas region. Maximizing time to get everywhere needed in a day, juggling various tasks, and managing time effectively.
