Her Story
About Jessica
I've spent about 25 years in the administrative field, building my career through diverse experiences across multiple industries. I started as a purchaser and then worked in HR administration in New York before moving to Florida, where my ex-husband and I owned an auto body business. I also worked as an insurance agent for Aflac before joining Infotech in Gainesville in 2012. At Infotech, I've grown significantly, starting as a legal contracts administrator, then becoming an executive assistant for the entire VP team, and later serving as the senior lead of the administration and events services team. Currently, I'm the administrative manager, directly supporting about 12 VPs and chiefs. My role is all about providing excellent customer service to my internal customers, helping free up their time so they can focus on strategic decisions that save the company money. One of my most notable achievements was leading the coordination of our company's acquisition by a finance company - a confidential, couple-year-long project involving only about 15 people. I managed the entire process of going out to bid with about 40 companies, organizing all the information gathering, working with our broker, coordinating presentations, and keeping everything on track under very tight deadlines with nights and overnight work. Successfully bringing that project to completion while working directly with the owners, chiefs, and VPs was probably my biggest accomplishment so far.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say your attitude is the biggest thing in this profession. When people come to you with requests and things like that, I think one thing that's very important is to have a professional, positive attitude and be very helpful. In this profession, you're in a helpful position - you want people to come to you for help, you want people to ask you for things and to ask you questions. One of my pet peeves is when there's a team member that is just not open to having a bunch of requests come in and they give an attitude about that, or a poor attitude. Even if you don't know something, just ask what the deadline is if you have competing priorities, and that way you can prioritize and then go to your boss if you need help prioritizing. I think having a positive, friendly attitude is definitely good. Also, just being open to change too. I think, especially with the world changing all around us at a rapid pace, especially with AI and things like that, embracing change and making the best of what you can learn and applying it to your job is really important.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think one challenge I'm seeing that's difficult, but we're figuring it out, is just scaling as fast as possible, and then also embracing AI. That's new for everybody. We've created our own AI with the data that we house, but just applying AI to my position and freeing up my time to be able to focus on other things is important. Figuring out which tools to use is a challenge because you have to pay for a lot of the tools, so learning which tools my company is embracing and innovating when it comes to that. It is a challenge, but it's also amazing too at the same time. You start to realize, oh wow, this is taking me a lot less time, and you can focus on other things.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Some values that I have in my life is to make a positive impact while I'm here on the world. I think that translates into my profession as well, because just being helpful and making other people's lives easier so they could focus on other things, and being friendly - that's really important to me. The feedback that I've gotten has been really positive. Just being able to make a difference and help people, I think that's one thing that translates into being in this position. People are very grateful and have thanked me, so I get a lot of good feedback.
