Her Story

About Jessica

Jessica began her career with Music & Arts in 2007 as a Retail Sales Associate and progressed from store leadership into multi-unit leadership and School Services. Over nearly two decades, her career has included responsibilities across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Illinois, California, Arizona, Colorado, and Washington, giving her experience leading across different markets, teams, and business environments.

Her experience extends beyond traditional retail operations. Through School Services, Jessica has worked closely with schools and music educators, building partnerships and supporting music education within local communities. Combined with her multi-unit leadership experience, this has given her a broad understanding of the business and the communities Music & Arts serves.

Working across different markets and areas of the business has strengthened Jessica’s ability to adapt her leadership approach, navigate change, and understand what different teams need to be successful.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jessica

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to music and the relationships I’ve built throughout my career. Music taught me discipline, preparation, confidence, and the importance of consistent practice. It also taught me how to perform under pressure, work as part of a team, and continue improving even when something doesn’t come easily. Those lessons have stayed with me and continue to influence how I lead today.

Just as important has been the network I’ve built throughout my career. I’ve had the opportunity to learn from mentors, peers, leaders, educators, and the people I’ve led. Those relationships have challenged my thinking, supported my growth, and reinforced the importance of building genuine connections and continuing to learn from others.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to never give up, use my voice, and speak up for what I believe in. I’ve learned that you won’t always have the answer, and things won’t always go as planned, but you have to be willing to keep learning and keep moving forward. I also believe strongly that everyone deserves to have a voice. As a leader, it’s important to me that I listen, ask for different perspectives, and make sure the people around me feel heard.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to recognize the influence they can have, even early in their careers. Use your voice, share your ideas, and don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself. But influence is also about what you do for others. Support other women, open doors when you can, and help create opportunities for those coming behind you. Success is meaningful, but helping someone else find their confidence and grow into their potential is just as important.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One area I believe deserves continued focus is women in leadership, particularly within the music industry. I want more women to see leadership as a path that is open to them and to have access to the mentorship, development, and opportunities that help them get there. Throughout my career, I’ve seen how important it is to have people who encourage you, challenge you, and recognize your potential. I believe we have a responsibility to do that for the women coming behind us.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and honesty are two of the values that matter most to me. I believe how you lead matters just as much as the results you deliver. That means doing what you say you’re going to do, being transparent, having honest conversations even when they’re difficult, and treating people with respect. I also believe leadership comes with a responsibility to support others, help them grow, and create opportunities along the way. Ultimately, I want my leadership to be reflected not only in what I accomplish, but in the people I’ve helped grow along the way.
