Jessica Costa is a highly accomplished wildlife biologist and environmental consultant with over 20 years of experience in avian and bat ecology, wildlife research, and environmental permitting. As a Certified Wildlife Biologist and Project Management Professional, she has led complex projects for Stantec, providing expertise in federal and state permitting, habitat conservation planning, and risk assessments for both wind and solar energy developments. Her work combines rigorous scientific research with practical project management to ensure compliance, safety, and conservation outcomes. Throughout her career, Jessica has built a reputation as a trusted subject matter expert in avian and bat ecology. She has contributed to Environmental Assessments, Eagle Conservation Plans, and construction and operations plans for offshore and onshore renewable energy projects. Mentorship has been invaluable in my career. From my early days, mentors like Jody Jones at Maine Audubon instilled genuine confidence and passion for my work, which continues to guide me today.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Recognize that you are just as qualified as anyone else, and in some cases, you can work even harder. Have confidence in yourself—that is key.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value collaboration, integrity, and passion in my work. Personally, I value adventure, time outdoors, and shared experiences with my husband and dog.
