Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jessica
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success is attributed to three influential women in my life: my mother who had me at a young age and graduated college with me at age 2, my grandmother Nana Carol who raised 11 children, and another grandmother figure, all of whom overcame significant adversity including a shared collagen mutation causing fatigue.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice is to follow what you love because then you'll never work a day in your life. My mentors Dean Wilson and Dr. Liu supported me through challenges including a two-year break to raise my child.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
View the career path as a spiraling staircase. It may seem hard to understand in the beginning, but you will re-approach it at a deeper level later. It is not something to be intimidated by.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges are battling unqualified practitioners opening boutiques without proper training, resistance and suppression from mainstream Western medicine despite thousands of years of documented practice, and pharmaceutical companies viewing alternative healing research as competition rather than collaboration.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My main value is responding beneficially to my environment and the people around me. I am driven to make a difference and help people, following a philosophy of doing what I love as a passion rather than work. I am passionate about sharing accurate health information.
