Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jessica
01What do you attribute your success to?
Largely, I'd attribute it to hard work. A lot of the work that we do goes unnoticed, just on the back end and the nature of what we're doing. That can be challenging, but it also builds a sense of consistency and trust in what I'm doing. Demonstrating how to keep your head down and keep things moving and build a successful team that really looks to you for leadership has helped navigate my professional career.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say that you should trust yourself. There's no need to have everything figured out. I've been an example of somebody who's made a lot of career pivots, not necessarily in the nature of my role, but in the projects that I have worked on. A lot of growth can come from just saying yes to those opportunities, and making sure that you're in the right room with the right people, so networking where you can, and building those relationships intentionally is really important. Surrounding yourself by good people, good women, making sure that you're getting an honest perspective about you and your growth, and being the person that you are, and then learning how to expand on that.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest things that I've had to learn to work through is how you lead through ambiguity. In consulting in general, and then in the nature of transformation work with organizations, there's rarely a perfect playbook for how you operate. We get a lot of priority shifts, stakeholders who have different perspectives and values, and the work itself can be pretty complex. Learning to focus on clarity and how to navigate through that has been really important.
