Her Story
About Jessica
I'm a financial advisor who helps families and retirees with their retirement income, final expense planning, and overall health expense planning. I basically just help with financial planning and help them ease into a better lifestyle. When people reach out to me, they are trying to make sure all their ducks are in a row. I'm a career changer who spent about 10 years in show business as a professional dancer, traveling to China and Florence, Italy, and performing in production shows in Las Vegas. I studied theater and dance at the University of Memphis and worked in that field for a while, and I'm very proud of that experience. I wouldn't take it back, but I just grew out of it. After I recently graduated with my business degree, it took me about a year to get into the financial field. My family always had a business background, so the transition felt natural. I love my current company because they really made it a point to hire more women in this predominantly male field.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say that she has a great mindset to even desire to do something like this. You have to be responsible, and you have to be organized, and just lead by example in this field. I would tell her to further your education the best way you can, and take advantage of the opportunities that education brings, and I'll just tell her to just stay focused on the books. It's really important because sometimes the company will provide you the study material for the certifications you need, but sometimes they say, like, hey, go ahead and, you know, if the resources are out there somewhere, go ahead and study. It really makes your skill set a little bit wider and diverse.
