Her Story

About Jessica

Jessica Johnson has spent the past four years building a career in healthcare, with a focus on hospice, home health, and dementia care. After earning her CNA certification, she discovered her passion for supporting patients at the end of life and their families through hands-on experience in home health settings. She is currently working toward her high school diploma rather than a GED to further her opportunities in the medical field, despite the challenge of completing four years of study in one year. Jessica draws strength from the values instilled by her great-grandparents, particularly her great-grandmother, and credits the unwavering support of her family, children, and spouse for her professional growth. In her work, she emphasizes teamwork and collaboration among colleagues who are committed to the right reasons, while at home she prioritizes open communication and mutual support within her family. She is also passionate about breast cancer awareness and cancer organizations, motivated by personal family experiences.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jessica

01What do you attribute your success to?

My family and children, my great-grandma, my spouse. Always having their support and them urging me on to keep doing what I'm doing and go further in life with it. It was something already in me that I didn't know was there.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just to follow your heart. At the end of the day, you may not think that it's what you want, but if it's pushing you in that direction, then it's probably where you're supposed to be.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Trying to get the education to move forward at my age in the field I'm in. Currently trying to get my high school diploma instead of a GED so I can move up in the medical field. Doing 4 years of high school in a year is challenging.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

For work, teamwork and having a group of people that work well together, understand each other, and are there for the right reasons. At home, being able to communicate and have those relationships with my children, spouse, and family. Knowing that we're all there for each other whenever one of us needs the other.
