Richmond, VA 23222

Jessica Joyce is a Litigation Practice Adherence & Performance Auditor at Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen, where she plays a key role in ensuring consistency, efficiency, and compliance across litigation processes. She graduated with her Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies from Bryant & Stratton College Richmond in 2009 and has worked continuously in law firms ever since. She began her career as a paralegal, working directly on cases and supporting attorneys through all phases of litigation, building a strong foundation in legal procedures, case management, and client support.

Throughout her career, Jessica has grown steadily within the legal field, advancing from hands-on paralegal work into leadership-focused roles. Most recently, she was promoted into her current position as Litigation Practice Adherence & Performance Auditor after being encouraged to step into the role when her predecessor retired. While the transition marked a shift away from direct casework, it also provided an opportunity to expand her impact by helping implement firmwide processes, guiding paralegals, and ensuring workflows run smoothly and efficiently. Having already been actively involved in supporting new hires and identifying areas for operational improvement, she embraced the opportunity to grow into a role focused on structure, mentorship, and performance excellence.

Looking ahead, Jessica’s long-term goal is to become the manager of all paralegals within her organization. She is passionate about continuous learning and professional development, not only for herself but also for those she works alongside. She values helping others in her field build their skills and succeed, while still maintaining a strong commitment to the broader purpose of supporting clients. In recent years, she has experienced meaningful professional growth, including earning recognition such as the Marcella Murray Service Award and advancing into her leadership role—milestones that reflect her dedication, work ethic, and continued upward trajectory in the legal profession.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I would definitely have to say my mom. I'm first in my family to go to college, and she was very much so about the hustle and providing and doing what she needed to do, but she also was very kind. In the times that she wasn't at work, she was doing a lot of volunteer work, and just seeing that from a very young age just kind of instilled in me, you can do the hard work, and not bring other people down to get yourself forward. So that definitely played a big impact in my career, and I've just kind of always had that mindset, like doesn't matter if they're the janitor or CEO, I'm going to treat them the same. Her name is Rebecca, and she really showed me that you can work hard and be successful while still being kind and lifting others up.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

If you are the smartest person in the room, find another room. You can’t grow if you are the one with all the knowledge.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To not get discouraged, just because it is, you know, mostly male-dominant still. Be open to asking questions and for clarity on how to do things, and not be afraid to reach out to someone who may know more than you. Life is lifelong learning journey. You're going to be learning throughout your life, and the only way you're going to get better is being able to reach out and speak to someone who has that experience. If it is a passion for you, the challenges should be something that you face head-on.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say that the biggest challenge now would be the lack of opportunities for someone just getting into the field. You see less and less job postings for entry level positions that require little to no experience. I aim to help release some of they gate-kept information about the legal field to those genially interested in pursuing a career in it and to show you can go other routes besides being an attorney.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Making sure I have me time at the end of the day to be able to decompress is really important to me. I also keep in mind that I need to be patient, because I am learning a lot of new tasks with this promotion, and it's a part of the process, and it's all for my benefit. I believe in treating everyone the same. I don't believe in bringing other people down to get yourself forward. It's about doing the hard work while being kind and helping others. I'm focused on helping people who are in my field build their skills, not just focusing on helping the clients. Being of service to others, both co-workers and clients, is central to who I am.
