Her Story

About Jessica

Jessica Lavoie is the QA manager for a company that sells products for a nuclear plant, a role she has held for approximately six months. Prior to this position, she spent 11 years working in QA software testing as a QA Level 2, conducting end-to-end testing for enterprise organizations. In that capacity, she contributed to building test software designed to detect bugs and ensure applications performed without causing problems for end users. Lavoie attributes her professional drive to her desire to serve as an example for her children and son while maintaining honesty in her work, even as she pushes herself past occasional tendencies toward laziness. She advises young women entering technical fields to prioritize certifications alongside completing their education and to aim high in their career goals.

Ten minutes with Jessica

01What do you attribute your success to?

I push myself because I want to be an example to my kids and to my son. I'm honest and I push myself even though I can be lazy sometimes.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Try to get your certifications in place. It's not only about the high school diploma or college degrees anymore, they look at what you have in a portfolio and what you bring to the table. Focus on finishing school but also look at the diversity for the certifications. Always shoot for the stars because you might end up in the ceiling but that is better than the floor.
