Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jessica

01What do you attribute your success to?

My parents pushed me growing up to be the best version of myself and supported me in all activities and clubs to be well-rounded.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Inspect what you expect. One of my old general managers always said inspect what you expect so just make sure like what my standards are. Definitely you only get really one first chance with people that are coming on property so just put your best foot forward and make sure that you take care of them.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Keep pushing. Lay out all your goals and what you want to do and then network meet people don't stop trying and pushing yourself to be the best version of yourself because you can do it. There are a lot of women that are out there that are general managers of country clubs restaurants so that's kind of like what I look forward to is I look at those people and how they got there and I follow them on LinkedIn different social media platforms as well. And it is possible I would say in any any field to be successful as a woman and just stay true to yourself and authentic.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Staffing and being able to retain staff and finding people that want to work and put their best foot forward. Internships are great because you have people that do want to go in that field and when you're trying to retain staff it also comes down to like the leadership and the training that you give them.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My family is definitely a big value just because you obviously never know when their last day is going to be and just making sure that you're there for one another. Honesty is a big value for me and making sure that I'm honest with who I am and also the staff's honest as well. And just I guess dedication. No one's perfect so but if you put your best foot forward like I said everybody makes mistakes but as long as you're trying that's like the biggest thing for me.
