Her Story
About Jessica
My professional journey in real estate spans about 20 years, starting with work in housing and public housing in state and federal capacities. My husband and I bought our first primary property in 2009 and began actively investing in 2020. Today, I own and manage about 5 properties throughout Massachusetts and on Cape Cod, including long-term, short-term, and mid-term rentals. I also manage 3 additional properties in Cape Cod under my management company, which I'm building out with my husband. As a real estate agent, my days involve working my CRM, pushing leads, contacting clients, and managing all aspects of our rental properties from tenant relations to maintenance coordination to marketing and pricing. Beyond real estate, I'm the founder of Stroke of Light, a nonprofit inspired by my sister's stroke recovery journey. I've been fundraising for about 4 years and officially registered the nonprofit in November. Last year in May, I made one of my most significant professional achievements by taking the leap to quit my high-paying federal job and turn what had been my side hustle into my full-time reality. Now I'm building my brand and business on my own terms, doing it the way I want to do it, at my own pace.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jessica
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think the support of my parents has been huge, and how I grew up watching my grandfather working so hard and owning property. He instilled these work ethics and values where it's like, family first. I think the support of my parents, especially my mom, showing me since I was a little girl that even if things come your way, you could always persevere and just keep going. So I think just their support and just letting me know that I could do anything, that kind of made me feel that I could actually do anything I wanted.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Not everybody has to believe in your dream. Or not everybody will believe in your dream, you just have to continue to go for it.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
We can do all things if we just kind of just do it and not be scary, and just have the right team behind you. Especially if you're coming into the real estate world as an investor, or a homeowner, or even as an agent, I think the right support and just finding your people is so important. Cause not everybody's gonna be kind and helpful. But just finding the people that actually align with your own beliefs and with your vision, and then just work towards that.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In the real estate world, my challenge is that although I've had experience in housing and real estate for over 20 years, actually being an active agent as of 2024 or 2025, I had my license for 10 years, but becoming an active agent now, the challenge I see is that when people say, oh, you're a new agent, it's like, yes, I'm a new active agent, but they don't know the worth and the value you bring unless you're putting it out there. So the challenge is building a brand, also building a business, and building everything all at the same time. But the opportunity is that I've worked for this, and I've had the opportunity to kind of do it at my own pace and the way I want to do it. So it's still trying to figure things out, but still being able to kind of do it the way I want to do it.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my work, I would say work ethic and just the integrity of person and the loyalty to the brand or to the business. In my personal life, I would say family.
