What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to women in construction. I think that being a woman in the construction industry, being that it's male-dominated, can be tough. But if you are resilient, and you stick to your boundaries, and you stick to who you are, you can be extremely successful.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I think that one of the best things that someone's ever told me is that they can see that the passion that I have shows and is an example to other people. So it gives me the ability to want to show up, and show out, and do good, because I know that other people are watching me.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You can do it. Respect yourself, respect your boundaries, and work hard. And you can get there. You can be successful.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think the biggest challenge for me, and it's something that I deal with and I've kind of perfected, but I think it's hard for somebody to be very diverse, right? So, I can be in heels and a dress one day, and then I'm in steel-toed boots and a hard hat the next day. Or even multiple times in one day. It changes in one day, but it's crazy, and I think that's a challenge. It could be a challenge for a lot of people, men or women. But you have to show up. As for opportunities, I think that there is a tremendous amount of growth and accessibility into construction. You just gotta be willing to work. If you're willing to work, and you're willing to put boots on the ground, you're good to go. So, there's a lot of accessibility. Just gotta want it.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are integrity, really doing the right thing regardless if someone's looking, and standing on your word, speaking and being honest. Being dependable is another thing. Being dependable is a big thing that's gotten me a long way. Integrity, dependability, honesty.
