She values honesty, ethics, and being human and personable, emphasizing kindness because one never knows what others may be going through. Pineda and her husband have donated to St. Jude for many years. Among the advice she shares is not to take designs personally, as interior design is a form of art and tastes vary, and that those entering the field must love it fully, including the paperwork involved beyond what is seen online.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jessica
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say lots of hard work, all of the mentors that have helped guide me along the way, as well as my parents, and Jesus Christ.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't take your designs personally because at the end of the day, interior design is a form of art, and not everyone likes the same artwork. Everyone's going to see it differently.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You have to love it, or else you're actually gonna leave the industry. It's more paperwork than everybody sees online, so if you don't enjoy the full scope of the job, you're gonna be someone that leaves in a few years.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Some of the shortage in homes really helped position ourselves with builders to be able to help get lovely interiors up and running. Also, more people starting to love design. COVID really made their home a little bit of their sanctuary.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being honest, being ethical, and just importantly, being human and personable to everyone. Everyone, you never know what they're going through, so they could be having a bad day. Just be kind.
