Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jessica

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to curiosity, perseverance, adaptability, and a genuine desire to serve others. I began my career in the building materials industry in 2002 at Home Depot, where I learned the importance of understanding customers and helping them bring their projects to life. Over the years, I expanded my knowledge across different departments and later transitioned into distribution, continuing to grow professionally. Today, as a Territory Sales Manager, I continue to challenge myself, learn new things, build strong relationships, and adapt to an evolving industry. I believe success comes from never becoming stagnant and continuously developing the knowledge, character, and skills needed to serve and lead effectively.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is simple: “Faith over fear.” Throughout my career, I’ve faced unfamiliar situations, greater responsibilities, and challenges in a traditionally male-dominated industry. I’ve learned not to let fear hold me back, but instead to trust myself, have faith, and keep moving forward. Growth often happens outside of our comfort zones, and I believe courage isn’t about having no fear—it’s about having enough faith to move forward despite it.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the building materials, construction, or sales industry is to believe that you belong. Approach your career with confidence, curiosity, and a genuine desire to serve and learn. Ask questions, understand the business, build strong relationships, and never stop developing your knowledge. You don’t have to know exactly where your career will lead—every experience can teach you something valuable and open new doors. Most importantly, embrace a mindset of faith over fear and never let being in a male-dominated industry diminish your voice, confidence, or ambition.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in my field include working in a traditionally male-dominated industry, managing demanding customer expectations, frequent travel, and balancing work with personal responsibilities. However, I also see tremendous opportunities for women who are willing to step forward, build their expertise, and develop strong relationships. In a relationship-driven industry, listening, communication, problem-solving, and trust can be powerful advantages. I believe women can create meaningful career paths in sales, leadership, and beyond by staying curious, continuing to learn, remaining persistent, and choosing faith over fear.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are service, compassion, faith, curiosity, and resilience. I believe in treating people with kindness and making a positive difference, whether through my work, supporting my family, or serving my community. I value continuous learning and staying open to change because every experience is an opportunity to grow. Above all, faith keeps me grounded and reminds me to remain compassionate, persistent, and committed to doing what is right.
