Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jessica

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of perseverance, continuous learning, and a genuine passion for helping others achieve their goals. Throughout my career, I have embraced every opportunity to grow, whether in corporate operations, higher education, or leadership. I believe that success comes from being willing to adapt, remain accountable, and consistently strive for improvement.

I also credit my success to the strong work ethic and resilience I have developed through both my professional and personal experiences. Balancing a demanding career while raising two children, including a son on the autism spectrum, has taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of advocating for others. Those experiences have strengthened my leadership approach and reinforced my belief that challenges can become opportunities for growth.

Most importantly, I measure success not only by results and recognition but by the positive impact I can have on the lives of students, colleagues, and my community. Helping others reach their potential and creating opportunities through education is what motivates me every day.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is, "Control what you can control, and let your results speak for themselves."

That advice has guided me throughout my career, from my time in corporate operations at DuPont to my leadership role in higher education admissions. It taught me to focus on preparation, consistency, accountability, and the quality of my work rather than circumstances outside my control.

I have also learned that leadership is not about having all the answers it's about serving others, developing people, and creating opportunities for them to succeed. Investing in relationships, maintaining integrity, and staying committed to continuous improvement have been key principles that have shaped my professional journey.

Those lessons continue to remind me that success is built through daily habits, resilience, and a willingness to keep learning while helping others grow alongside you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering higher education and admissions to believe in their abilities, embrace every opportunity to learn, and never underestimate the value of their voice. Confidence is built through experience, so don't be afraid to take on new challenges or step into leadership roles before you feel completely ready.

I would also emphasize the importance of building strong relationships, seeking mentors, and remaining open to feedback. The most successful professionals are those who continue learning, adapt to change, and consistently look for ways to improve.

Finally, remember that leadership is about service. Focus on making a positive impact on the students and colleagues you work with, lead with integrity, and let your work ethic and results establish your reputation. Stay resilient, remain authentic, and never lose sight of the difference you can make in the lives of others through education.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in higher education admissions today is helping prospective students navigate an increasingly complex decision-making process. Rising education costs, concerns about return on investment, and balancing work, family, and school responsibilities have made students more cautious than ever. Admissions professionals must do more than provide information they must serve as trusted advisors who help students see a clear path toward achieving their career goals.

At the same time, one of the greatest opportunities is the growing demand for career focused education and workforce development. As industries continue to evolve and employers seek skilled professionals, institutions that offer practical, industry aligned programs have an important role in preparing students for meaningful careers. Admissions teams have the opportunity to connect individuals with educational pathways that can change the trajectory of their lives.

From a leadership perspective, another significant opportunity lies in using data and technology to improve the student experience. Analytics, automation, and personalized communication strategies allow admissions professionals to better understand student needs, provide timely support, and increase enrollment success while maintaining a student-centered approach.

Ultimately, the future of admissions is about combining innovation with human connection. While technology can enhance efficiency, building trust, understanding individual goals, and providing personalized guidance will remain the foundation of successful student recruitment and retention.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my professional and personal life are integrity, service, perseverance, and continuous growth.

Integrity is at the core of everything I do. I believe in being honest, accountable, and following through on my commitments, whether I am leading a team, working with prospective students, or supporting my family.

Service is another value that defines my career. I view education as a life-changing opportunity, and I am passionate about helping others recognize their potential and achieve their goals. Making a positive difference in someone's life is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

Perseverance has been essential throughout my journey. Every challenge whether professional or personal has reinforced the importance of resilience, adaptability, and maintaining a positive mindset. I believe that consistent effort and determination create lasting success.

Finally, I value continuous learning and personal growth. I am committed to improving myself as a leader, professional, and parent, and I encourage those around me to embrace lifelong learning and self-development.

These values shape my leadership style, my relationships, and my commitment to making a meaningful impact in both my profession and my community.
