About Jessica

Jessica Sawyer is a seasoned financial services leader with more than 13 years of experience in banking, audit, and governance. Serving as a Manager of Risk Advisory for Cherry Bekaert Jessica specializes in risk mitigation, operational efficiency, and internal control over financial reporting (ICFR). She began her career in retail banking operations and progressed into audit, eventually building and leading the internal audit function from the ground up. Known for her strategic mindset and strong ethical compass, she partners closely with leadership to strengthen compliance, enhance controls, and support sustainable organizational growth. A graduate of Indiana University Southeast, Jessica holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance with a minor in Political Science, as well as a post-baccalaureate certificate in Accounting. Her leadership style is approachable and people-centered, with a strong emphasis on mentorship and developing talent. She is recognized for her ability to balance technical expertise with collaboration, ensuring audit functions not only meet regulatory expectations but also add meaningful value to the business. Beyond her professional role, Jessica is deeply committed to community engagement and service. She serves as Chair of the Young Professionals Committee for One Southern Indiana Chamber & Economic Development, Board Member for Volunteers of America Mid-States and as Vice President of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Clark & Floyd Indiana. Her dedication to leadership and service has earned her multiple honors, including being named a Louisville Business First Forty Under 40 honoree. 01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to adapting my communication style to different people, meeting them where they are, and fostering collaboration that brings teams together.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to be intentional about what I say yes to—early on, saying yes to everything builds experience, but over time, choosing opportunities that align with my goals and values matters most.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to never stop learning and growing, both professionally and personally.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field right now is staying current with evolving regulations and internal audit and accounting standards, which also presents opportunities to innovate and improve practices.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, authenticity, and credibility, along with respecting confidentiality. I also value connection and community—whether it’s hosting friends and family, serving my community, or spending time with my dog, Blitz. Additionally, I’m passionate about coaching and mentoring the next generation and enjoy crafting personalized gifts to show appreciation for the people I care about.
