About Jessica
Jessica Thompson is a medical coding and billing professional who serves as a Reimbursement Specialist at Unified Health Services in Memphis, Tennessee. In her role, she focuses on healthcare reimbursement, helping workers’ compensation medical providers obtain payment from insurance companies for the services they provide. After spending much of her life as a stay-at-home mother, Jessica returned to school following a major life transition and earned an Associate of Science in Medical Billing and Coding from Ultimate Medical Academy in March 2026. Her determination to build a stable future for herself and her four children led her to pursue a career in healthcare administration, securing employment with Unified Health Services before completing her studies.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Jessica is independently developing an innovative coding assistance platform designed to make medical coding resources more affordable and accessible. Inspired by the challenges she encountered entering the profession, she aims to help recent graduates bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world practice. Her platform is designed to consolidate multiple tools into one accessible resource, helping coding professionals navigate complex and frequently changing code sets while improving efficiency and accuracy. Jessica believes technology and artificial intelligence should complement human expertise rather than replace it, and she hopes her initiative will help address industry challenges, including expensive software, limited workplace preparation, and difficulties navigating healthcare reimbursement systems.
As a survivor of human trafficking who has overcome significant personal challenges, Jessica brings resilience, compassion, and a strong sense of purpose to her work. Her experiences have strengthened her commitment to creating practical solutions that help others overcome obstacles and pursue meaningful opportunities. As a mother of four, she is motivated to build a lasting legacy for her children while making a positive difference in the medical coding and billing profession. Jessica encourages young women to persevere, believe in their abilities, and never count themselves out because of their circumstances or the doubts of others. Outside of work, she enjoys singing and exploring new ideas for her entrepreneurial venture, remaining committed to continuous learning and helping others succeed.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my resilience, determination, and compassion. As a human trafficking survivor, I overcame a difficult experience at a young age and found the strength to build a better future. My desire to help others has always been a driving force in my life. I recognize that the challenges I face are shared by many others, and I believe that if I can find solutions that work for me, those solutions may also help others overcome similar struggles.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women is to never give up on your goals or count yourself out because of your circumstances. As a mother of four and a trafficking survivor who started with very little, I faced people who doubted my ability to succeed. I encourage women to believe in themselves, stay determined, and prove that their potential goes far beyond others’ expectations. If you ever need extra motivation, use the doubt of others as fuel to succeed and show yourself what you are capable of achieving.
