About Jessica

Jessica Thorn serves TVM specialist for a Allied Valve, Inc., a role she has held for two years. In this position, she manages inventory information for customers, handles minimum and maximum stock levels, processes orders, and coordinates maintenance schedules for valves used in various different plants. She acts as a liaison between shop technicians and sales teams. Prior to this, Jessica spent 20 years in the restaurant industry, where she worked in nearly every position, including as a sous chef and lead bartender, before moving into international training with Hard Rock Cafe, traveling to open new restaurants and train staff. She began her current career path after seeking a change from the physical demands of restaurant work and finding a career within her degree field, starting as a customer service representative in inside sales before transitioning to her inventory role nine months later. Jessica is currently enrolled at Southern New Hampshire University, where she began studying Human Resources Management in 2022. She attributes her success to the determination and grit developed from watching her parents struggle, along with a focus on self-preservation and enjoying her work. Jessica values honesty, integrity, and maintaining strong work-life balance.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jessica

01What do you attribute your success to?

I grew up as a kid watching my parents struggle. And it really gave me the determination and grit to work hard and enjoy what you do, and self-preservation, like if anything ever happened I know I would be okay.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't take it personal. When you're at work, it's work, don't bring it home with you. Definitely make work-life balance a priority.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't wait to be asked to sit at the table. Find yourself a seat.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Being so new in the role and working with people who have been here 20-plus years. Biggest opportunity would probably be personally being able to grow my career with this company.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty and integrity are the two biggest ones. And giving yourself time to just give yourself personal time. It's a big one. Work-life balance.
