About Jessie

Jessie Shrieves is an accomplished artist specializing in fine art and photography, with a creative career dating back to the late 1960s and continuing through the 1970s and beyond. She studied Fine Arts at Parsons School of Design at The New School and also attended the Art Students League, where she expanded her artistic education through courses with Beverly Hale. She additionally studied with Anthony Tony and Joe Steppinelli at The New School, building a diverse foundation in artistic techniques and creative expression.

Throughout her career, Shrieves has developed a body of work spanning fine art and photography. Her creative projects include photographing plants and incorporating artistic elements such as art pen and brushstrokes into her compositions. Her work has been featured in various articles and magazines, and she has pursued opportunities through grants and competitions, including those associated with the Chamber and Big Museum. Her continued involvement in the arts reflects a longstanding commitment to developing her creative practice and sharing her work with broader audiences.

Shrieves also hopes to use her art to support charitable causes. She plans to sell posters featuring her original artwork and dedicate a portion of the proceeds toward providing food for people experiencing homelessness. For young women pursuing careers in the fine arts, she encourages them to actively seek out art grants, funding opportunities, and specialized arts organizations that can help them develop, organize, and promote their work. Through her own artistic journey and charitable ambitions, Shrieves seeks to demonstrate how creativity can serve both personal expression and the broader community.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the fine arts is to actively seek out opportunities that can support their artistic careers. Look for grants, art grants, and organizations dedicated to helping artists develop and promote their work. These resources can provide valuable guidance, help you organize your work, and create opportunities to get your art in front of a wider audience. Be proactive, apply for grants, connect with arts organizations, and take advantage of every resource available to help you grow as an artist.
