Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I measure success by the moments I help people feel empowered, educated, or able to experience something new. With Fuck Cancer, it’s hearing women say they feel confident taking control of their health. With Soul Food and Soundtracks, it’s introducing people to chefs, cuisines, or music they didn’t know existed. For me, success is creating opportunities for others to experience life differently and seeing the joy it brings.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came early in my career from a woman at a fashion store who suggested I pursue wardrobe styling. That guidance propelled me into entertainment styling and showed me the power of visual storytelling in shaping how stories are told and experienced.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to really know your audience. Too often, people try to throw everything at the wall to see what sticks, but success comes from understanding who you’re speaking to and what matters to them. Not everyone will be your audience, and not every approach will work for everyone. Find the story you want to tell, then identify the niche audience that will connect with it. Learn how they communicate—whether visually, educationally, or in another way—so you can craft messages that truly resonate. It’s about them, not just you.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Right now, some of the biggest opportunities in my field include expanding Soul Food and Soundtracks into new markets and leading campaigns that raise awareness for women’s health and underserved communities. The challenges include the industry’s shift from print to digital, which demands fluency in both storytelling and analytics, as well as balancing multiple responsibilities while avoiding burnout.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are community, giving back, and connection. I strive to create meaningful experiences through food, music, and community projects, while prioritizing clear communication, setting boundaries, and managing my time effectively to stay impactful and avoid burnout.
