About Jihan
Jihan Hafiz is an Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker, journalist, and communications consultant with 18 years of experience. Based in Washington, D.C., she is multilingual and has covered some of the world's biggest news events, presidential campaigns, and conflicts across five continents as a former conflict reporter. Hafiz specializes in stories about women's rights and has produced dozens of stories on women in war, violence against women in regions including India and Egypt, and an investigation into missing and murdered Indigenous women that was nominated for a Livingston Award. She is a first-generation born American from California with Egyptian and Polynesian ancestry. Her proudest moments include winning major awards and dedicating them to her parents. Hafiz has received an Emmy Award, a National Association of Black Journalists award, multiple gold, silver, and bronze Telly Awards, a Livingston Award nomination, Best Music Video at the Indigenous Music Awards in Canada, and has had her work featured in the Obama Foundation museum. She mentors young journalists by speaking in high schools and colleges in New Orleans, where she lives.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe in yourself, trust your instinct. Use your gifts as a woman such as being motherly, caring, sympathetic, empathetic. Women should focus on stories about women and children as those voices are often not heard.
