Her Story

About jihan

I started my career in staffing 22 years ago as a part-time recruiter, fresh out of college from Ohio State University. My first assignment was working the night shift for FedEx SmartPost, and even though recruiting wasn't what I went to school for, I threw myself into it. I would go to the site every night to see how the workers were doing and learn from the client directly. I identified needs like having team leads on site, proposed solutions to the client, and they loved it. That initiative led to the program being implemented across multiple FedEx locations, and I went from part-time recruiter to servicing 13 FedEx SmartPost hubs nationwide. I became part of the national implementation team, traveling to set up new hubs with clients and getting teams operational before moving to the next location. When FedEx SmartPost merged with FedEx and Amazon started growing, I transitioned to staffing Amazon sort centers and ended up staffing 11 of them. Over 18 years with that company, I climbed from recruiter to regional manager overseeing east and west regions, and eventually to VP of Operations overseeing all our nationwide clients. After the company was sold, I decided to make a change and worked for another company in downtown Orlando for a couple of years before joining ADECO. Now I oversee the Florida area for ADECO, focusing on turning around underperforming sites and making them profitable. I work closely with teaming companies here in Florida, which is a niche that many don't understand but there's a real need for. What I'm most proud of is the people I've trained and mentored over the years - many of them are now doing their own thing and succeeding, and I find tremendous value in that.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

One of the things I love more than growing a company is training people. I have a lot of people that were under me or that I trained that now are doing their own thing, and I find value in that. I would like to be more of a mentor and bring young minds in and make them know that they can do better, or they can be something better. I really do like to get people and put them under my wing and show them the ropes so they can even be better than I ever was. Then I can say, I helped that person be who they are. I also value representation - I am Afro-Latina and English was never my first language, and I want people to see that just because you look different than other people, you still make it in this world. If you have what it takes, it doesn't matter what you look like, and I don't think we have enough representation.
