About Jill
Jill Frier is a strategic communications consultant, technical writer, and corporate communications leader with more than 25 years of experience helping organizations communicate complex ideas with clarity and purpose. Through her consulting practice, The J Desk, she provides executive-level communications strategies, copywriting, editing, ghostwriting, content development, website design, and digital marketing solutions for businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies. Her expertise spans artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), technology innovation, data governance, financial services, healthcare, and organizational change management, enabling leaders to successfully engage stakeholders, drive user adoption, and deliver meaningful business outcomes.
Throughout her career, Jill has led high-impact communications initiatives for organizations including the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Vitalant, and Ameriprise Financial. She has developed enterprise-wide communication strategies supporting AI/ML governance, technology modernization, platform migrations, business intelligence, analytics, and employee engagement. Known for translating highly technical concepts into clear, audience-focused messaging, Jill has earned a reputation as a trusted advisor to executives and cross-functional teams. In addition to her consulting work, she is the creator of Ladybug's Blog, a popular Arizona travel, nature, and lifestyle resource whose articles have been featured in local newspapers and online publications, combining her passion for storytelling, photography, and community engagement.
Jill earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Kansas and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. She continues to expand her expertise through advanced training in artificial intelligence, prompt engineering, and emerging communication technologies. Jill attributes her success to her faith in God, humility, perseverance, and a commitment to continuous learning. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say God, you know, humility. If I am successful, it's simply because I had the tenacity to just wake up every morning, and keep trying, and keep working... keep going, and moving forward
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
We work to live and not the other way around. Work is just work. You actually have a life. And the reason you work is to support your life, support your family and your children, and build a home
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't think that the career is the thing that's going to make you happy... have a family. Get married. Don't think you need to postpone it... be a woman. Do the thing that makes you happy as a woman... Move forward according to what you value
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI is a big challenge and opportunity... it's a tool... never forget that as a communications professional, your end user is a human being... focus on the human being and what you're going to deliver
