About Jill
Jill Scannell serves as the District Special Education Coordinator for the Red Clay Consolidated School District in Delaware. She brings 26 years of experience in the education field, with a focus on special education, general education, literacy, MTSS interventions, and support for multilingual learners. Her career path includes nine years as a special education teacher, time as an educational diagnostician, several years at the Delaware Department of Education where she managed multi-million dollar grants including statewide MTSS implementation, and five and a half years as Director of Learning Support at one of Delaware's largest charter schools overseeing special education, literacy, curriculum, 504 plans, and behavior policies. Scannell earned her undergraduate degree at Liberty University with focuses in elementary education, special education, and school psychology, followed by a master's degree in special education from Wilmington University. She attributes her success to truly listening to others and problem-solving collaboratively, and she values integrity, honesty, empathy, and leading alongside her colleagues to support students and families effectively.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I think just like being able to hear people and truly listening and then trying to problem solve the best way. People will say that we can tell Jill anything and we know she's going to take care of it. She's someone who gets it done.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Knowing what is right and sticking to it and not getting swayed one way or the other when there's a lot of noise in the room.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Remaining steady, being someone who is dependable and has integrity. Let your work show who you are. You don't have to be the loudest person in the room.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my personal life, my faith is the first value that's the most important to me. I wouldn't be who I am without my Savior Jesus Christ. I try to work with integrity and honesty, put myself in other people's shoes, lead alongside people, be hopeful and encourage people.
