Her Story
About Jill
Jill Smith is an occupational therapist who has dedicated her career to supporting children with limb loss through the Limb Kind Foundation. She began her involvement as a volunteer at camps and youth programs, inspired by her brother's role as the foundation's executive director and a prosthetist. In 2020, she launched the Show Your Shine event, an adaptive runway show for children and teens that has expanded to attract hundreds of attendees annually in New York while raising funds and building confidence. She now runs the foundation's New York youth group, participates in international outreach such as recent prosthetic care missions in Ethiopia, and draws ongoing motivation from the stories and resilience of the children and families served.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jill
01What do you attribute your success to?
The children and families we work with, their stories, smiles, and journeys are my why. When I have a hard day, I think about them and it guides me. It's my calling and I feel lucky to do this work every day.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never underestimate something that could really take off. Don't limit yourself to what you think you know or what you studied. When you feel passionate about something, you really can run with it in any way possible. Being in sales and marketing is not something I went to school for, but it's easy because I'm passionate about it.
