J.D. Kloster is a veteran elementary teacher, author, and Humane Policy Volunteer with Humane World for Animals. After 25 years of inspiring children to reach for their highest potential, she entered the next realm of her evolution. She now works to better the lives of animals. At age 65, she published her debut coming-of-age novel, LILY UNLEASHED. The epitome of the "underdog" story, this coming-of-age novel embodies themes of courage, friendship, and the power of standing up for the voiceless. The novel was inspired by the love of her own puppy mill survivor, Cagney. He suffered from emotional and behavior trauma from his puppy mill containment. LILY UNLEASHED spearheads her Empty Cages campaign which pulls back the curtain on the underbelly of the commercial dog breeding industry otherwise known as puppy mills. It promotes adoption from shelters and rescues as the way to end the puppy mill-to-pet store-pipeline; a true injustice to man's best friend for more than 30,000 years.
