About Joan
Leadership That Builds Lasting Impact
“Lead with trust, act with consistency, listen with understanding, and move every challenge forward with a steady, positive mindset.”
Joan Mason is an accomplished information technology leader with 46 years of experience guiding organizations through complex technical and business transformations. Currently serving as Program and Operations Manager on the infrastructure side at Siemens Digital Industries Software, Joan has built a diverse career spanning project and program management, IT operations, infrastructure, governance, cybersecurity, organizational transformation, and mergers and acquisitions.
Her career began as an IBM mainframe computer operator and progressed through roles including information center manager, UNIX and AS400 group manager, computer operations manager, infrastructure project manager, and IT project manager. This breadth of experience has shaped her into a leader who understands every major dimension of IT — from data centers and virtualization to enterprise systems, software development, network infrastructure, warehouse logistics, and global operations.
At Siemens, Joan has consistently led through periods of growth, change, and strategic transformation. She established the IT Demand Portfolio Program for DI IT DEX and DI IT SW, creating governance and prioritization processes that support enterprise technology investment decisions. She led Program Unite, one of Digital Industries Software’s largest Microsoft 365 transformation initiatives, successfully migrating approximately 30,000 users into the Siemens tenant. She also served as Integration Project Manager during the Mentor Graphics acquisition, supported strategic integration efforts for Altair, and helped establish governance frameworks supporting CFIUS security requirements and enterprise risk reduction.
While Joan is proud of these accomplishments, she is most passionate about developing people and strengthening organizational capability. She created a Project Management Job Shadowing Program to provide growth opportunities, build confidence, and prepare the next generation of leaders. Her leadership philosophy is simple: align strategy, governance, people, and execution to create sustainable business value.
Joan’s professional journey reflects determination, perseverance, and a deep commitment to continued growth. As a single mother, she drew on her inner strength and resilience to advance her career while raising her son, overcoming deeply difficult personal experiences and building the successful life she envisioned for her family. She is proud to witness the growing presence of women in technology and has supported initiatives that encourage women and girls to pursue opportunities in About P.E.O. - P.E.O. International and professional development.
She credits trust, consistency, understanding, a positive attitude, and family as the values that guide her personally and professionally. Looking back on more than four decades in technology, Joan believes her greatest accomplishments are not only the programs she has delivered, but the capabilities she has built, the organizations she has strengthened, and the people she has helped grow along the way.
“Technology will continue to evolve, but what endures are the capabilities we build, the relationships we create, and the people we help grow. That’s the legacy I hope to leave behind.”

Ten minutes with Joan
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to determination, perseverance, and a strong commitment to proving to myself that I could overcome challenges. As a single mother, I relied on my inner strength and resilience to keep moving forward, even through deeply difficult personal experiences. That commitment to growth and stability shaped my career and helped me build the successful life I envisioned for myself and my family.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to learn something new every day. Continuous learning keeps you adaptable, sharp, and open to new opportunities. It’s the foundation of growth — personally and professionally — and it’s what allows you to evolve as the industry changes.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women entering this industry to stay curious, take on challenges that stretch them, and never stop learning. Build relationships, invest in others, and remember that leadership isn’t defined by a title — it’s defined by the impact you have on people and the organization. Stay strong, stay focused, and trust in your abilities. Every setback is an opportunity to grow, and every step forward builds the confidence that will carry you through your career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in my field today revolve around the rapid pace of technological change, increasing complexity in global infrastructure, and the need for secure, scalable systems that support modern business demands. Organizations are navigating cloud transformation, automation, AI integration, and rising cybersecurity threats — all while trying to maintain stability, reliability, and cost‑effective operations.
At the same time, these challenges create tremendous opportunities. Advancements in automation, AI‑driven analytics, and cloud‑native architecture allow us to streamline processes, improve resilience, and deliver smarter, more efficient solutions. There is also a growing opportunity to strengthen cross‑functional collaboration and build diverse teams that bring new perspectives to long‑standing technical problems.
For leaders in IT, the real opportunity lies in guiding organizations through this evolution with clarity, consistency, and practical decision‑making — ensuring technology not only keeps up with the business, but actively enables its future. For leaders in IT, the real opportunity lies in guiding organizations through this evolution with clarity, consistency, and practical decision‑making — ensuring technology not only keeps up with the business, but actively enables its future.
